Having flag break in the rain!!
Every morning began with flag break, followed by a brief outline describing what was in store for the day. Immediately after flag break, the Scouts had 15 minutes to tidy up their campsite in preparation for the PATROL SITE INSPECTION - AAAGGHHH!!!
A patrol site being inspected.
As Forestburg was a purpose-built campsite, camping there was organised in a way that each troop was given an area that contained several tents, each housing two Scouts. The sites were further sub-divided into patrol areas that allowed 5 to 6 Scouts to live. The picture above shows a typical patrol site (this was after the patrol had tidied up!!).

The tents were pitched on wooden platforms to preserve the ground as they were used year-round. If they were pitched in the normal way (i.e using pegs in the ground), they would not have lasted the year.

The Bermuda Scouts in action during the campfire.
During the week, the Bermuda Scouts were invited over to a neighbouring Scout group's site.  The picture above shows the Bermuda Scouts teaching the Americans a few campfire songs and sketches (I think the Bermuda Scouts made a name for themselves by not being shy in front of an audience!!!)
Hmmmmmm - dinner!!
Throughout the week, all the Scouts had to cook their own meals. At the start of the week, we tried to make the meals fairly simple and progress to the more adventurous - looking at the picture above, maybe we should have stayed with the simple!!
Travelling in style - the transport used to take us to and from the airport.
To enable ease of transport between the airport and the campsite, the American Scouts managed to organise a school bus to transport both kit and bodies. For the leaders, it was a bit of a trip back to the past (for some, a longer trip than others....)
The swimming "pool" within the lake.
Right in the centre of Forestburg campsite there is a huge, cold lake. There was a roped off area that allowed the boys to take a dip to cool off after a hard day's work building bridges and hiking.
The rifle range on the campsite.
One of the activities towards the end of our expedition was to use the rifle range facilities.   After the boys had used the rifles, they then went on to have a go on the archery range - a lot of fun was had by all!!
What do you think?
